NEW BUILDING DESIGNS & ADDITIONS

LAWRENCEVILLE SCHOOL, SEMANS/LAWSON JOHNSTON SQUASH COURTS
Lawrenceville, NJ

The Hall Partnership was hired by Lawrenceville School to design a new building devoted to squash. The building consists of five American singles courts, one with a grandstand that seats ninety people, together with a small office, toilets, and storage room. The concept behind the Lawrenceville Squash Building is to provide a facility with light and openness, and at the same time, reduce the scale of what normally is a big, windowless building. The exterior low corridor together with the stepping of the courts reduces the cale and bulk of the building and provides interest to the facades as well as a sense of the activity inside. Glass back-walls provide for excellent spectator viewing and facilitate coaching.
