Old Main Wins Outstanding Design Award
American School and University magazine recognized the Hall Partnership with an Outstanding Design Award for its renovation of Old Main, the oldest building on the SUNY New Paltz Campus. Currently in construction, renovation of the existing 1907 building involved re-designing classroom and administrative spaces to meet current functional and academic needs while simultaneously restoring some of the historic details in the common spaces. Additionally, Hall Partnership’s “Green” design effort integrated several sustainable design initiatives. The project is in line to receive a USGBC LEED silver rating because the design met higher energy-efficiency standards than proposed originally.
Built in 1980, Old Main is an historically significant building, serving the SUNY New Paltz School of Education. “It is our mission to provide a learning environment which is challenging, student-centered, and personalized,” says SUNY New Paltz Asst. Vice President for Facilities Management, John Shupe. “The Hall Partnership’s design for modernizing Old Main will certainly help us provide that environment.”
